Cuthbertson High School to perform "Beauty and The Beast"

Cuthbertson High School's spring musical “Beauty and The Beast” promises to delight audiences of all ages as the cast transports them from a tiny French provincial village to the Beast's dark and gloomy castle.

There are more than 70 students who make up the cast and crew of this production, with volunteer efforts being provided by some of the school’s teachers and parents.

“Beauty and the Beast,” which is being presented in the Cuthbertson High School auditorium, begins April 20, 2012. The school is located at 1400 Cuthbertson Road in Waxhaw.

Performances are Friday, April 20, 2012, at 7 pm; Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 2 pm and 7pm; and Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 2 pm (understudy performance). Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults.

Families are also invited to a special fundraiser: Tea with Mrs. Potts on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. For details, go to the school's theater web site. 

Cuthbertson High students will take this production of “Beauty and The Beast” to competition in the Inaugural Blumenthal Performing Arts High School Musical Theater Awards. The school will be one of 22 high schools participating in the program.

The theater awards, called the Blumey Awards, are patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards and will recognize achievements in 13 categories. Those receiving the six highest scores in one or more categories will be finalists. Winners will be announced May 20, 2012, at the Blumey Awards Ceremony.
