Band Marches in Disney World
Travel, perform, and success. These are the best words to describe the Piedmont Panther Band. From local marching band contests, parades, holiday concerts, football games, state concert band performances, Bands of America contests in Atlanta, the band program at Piedmont is always preparing for the next big event. Only this time, that next big event was Walt Disney World. The band had to apply over a year in advance in order to perform, followed by months of waiting for the acceptance letter. Finally, it arrived. Walt Disney World is proud to announce the upcoming parade performance of the Piedmont Panther Band.
The day finally arrived when all 70 students and 19 adults boarded the buses and headed down to the “happiest place on Earth.†After hitting a few bumps in the road, the band finally made it to Florida all in one piece. With only four hours of sleep, everyone got dressed and headed to the ever secret, “backstage Disney†where no cameras are allowed. While waiting for our turn to enter the Magic Kingdom to start the parade, Mary Poppins, Stitch, Daisy Duck, and a few other characters came over to greet the band members. It was awesome, especially when some of the kids didn’t know the difference between Goofy and Pluto. Finally, it was our turn. With all the excitement of the magic of Disney, the band started marching down Main Street USA playing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.â€
After the performance, the band was able to enjoy a 3-day Hopper Pass to play and have fun at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end. Even though we had to come home, the memories that were made will hopefully last a life time. As band member Cameron Blackburn reflected, “My experience in Disney World was hilarious, and I’m so thankful to have been able to spend this time with my best friends.†Congratulations to the Piedmont Panther Band for the excellence in musical performance!
