Key Club: Leading Through Service

Senior Key Club member Erica Frys just finished donating a pint of blood at the Spring 2010 Blood Drive.

According to the Key Club International Mission Statement "Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership." At Parkwood, the Key Club has been busy this year doing just that. As members of Kiwanis International, the club, led by Ms. Laney, has organized two blood drives, a Christmas party for underprivileged children and later this month they will host the Special Needs Prom for the Wolfe School at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. With over 150 members from grades 9-12, they have added 237 pints of blood to the American Red Cross’ Blood Bank, have brightened the holidays for 32 elementary school aged children and will make the prom an event to remember for the Wolfe School students. When asked about Key Club, senior Samantha Young said, “My favorite thing about Key Club is helping kids and working to make their lives better.”  Senior Morgan Rannow added, "It feels good to know we can make a difference in someone else's life."
