Sun Valley High School Students Tour France

During April of this year seven SVHS students traveled to Limoges and Paris, France for two weeks. This semi-annual student exchange trip included a stay in host family homes in Limoges, France and a three day two night tour of Paris. This exchange has been a Sun Valley tradition for a number of years now. Some twenty French students had visited SVHS and stayed with host families back in February of this year. They similarly enjoyed an American exchange in our community and as we pay it forward the cultural exchange and understanding grow. While in France our students were immersed in the French Language and culture for two weeks and came away with enhanced knowledge and appreciation.

While in Limoges, students toured the Cathedral, Limoges Porcelain Factory, The Museum de la Resistance, a French bakery, among many other attractions. In nearby Sarlot, France the students toured the Prehistoric Museum with its many fossils, artifacts, and traces of Cro-Magnum man and dinosaurs. In Odour sur Glane, they got a view of some of the WWII atrocities experienced at the hand of Hitler’s SS men in this quiet charming town.

In Paris the students walked along the Seine River, toured the Louvre Museum, climbed the Eiffel Tour, and were awed by the beauty of Notre Dame Cathedral. The students stuck together and watched out for one another in this busy world class city. They ate at sidewalk cafés, shopped for souvenirs, and strolled along des Champs Elysses. The students took an exciting cruise on the Bateaux-Mouches River Ship and saw so many breath taking sites by water including numerous chateaus and monuments.

Over all the students had a remarkable adventure that they will certainly never forget. After an 8 hour flight back to Charlotte, the students were met at the airport and welcomed by banners, friends, and family members eager to embrace them and hear all about this trip. Though some of the students embarked as strangers they bonded on this trip, learned a great deal about France, and also gained a great many friends here and abroad.
