Humanities Club Donates to MANA

Heather Welch and Maria Ortega present MANA founders, Bret Raymond and Mark Moore with a check.

In March, the Humanities Club presented MANA founders a check for $300. The money was raised through a pancake breakfast held at Porter Ridge on February 4th.

MANA Nutrition is a company based in Matthews, North Carolina that seeks to develop and provide solutions to address the most severe cases of malnutrition across the globe. The company is the producer of MANA (Mother Administered Nutritive Aid), a ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) made of a fortified peanut paste that has been carefully formulated to provide a child’s basic nutritional needs – just three servings of MANA can save the life of a starving child. A non-profit run on business principles, MANA Nutrition also seeks to spread awareness of severe acute malnutrition and the 20 million children it affects every year.

Today, MANA Nutrition can produce as much as 21,000 kg (46,000 lbs) of MANA per day — enough to feed 1500 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition — and distributes it to Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda and Guatemala.
