WHS DECA Travels to Greensboro for States

WHS DECA members traveled to Greensboro, NC to attend State competition. Competition consisted of multiple role plays and tests to test their knowledge on marketing concepts. This year the members did an outstanding job, placing in nearly every category they competed in. In the Stock Market Game, Gray Hancock and Mike Bazzi were first in the state and 10th out of 950 teams in the region. In Automotive Service Marketing, Ashley Simpson got 1st place overall, 2 top role plays, top test, and was a state finalist. In Accounting Applications, Peter Ovendorf got 1st place overall, 2 top role plays, top test, and was a state finalist. Along with Peter in accounting, Alex Hartsell and Drew Marx tied for 3rd place; both had 1 top role play, top test, and were state finalists. In Apparel, Sophia Lange and Kiki Heron were state finalists and had top tests and top role play scores. In Marketing Management, Brendan Bailey was a state finalist. Vickie Belcher got 2nd place overall, top test, and was a state finalist in both Professional Selling Event and the Retail Merchandising category.
All of these competitors plus Del Slaughter, Emily Cancian, Melody Robbins, Dhara Patel, Toni Jenkins, Mariah Barber, Rosie Rudder, Joseph Nichols, Madeline Tackeberry, Britton Rogers, and Chloe Gilgannon received proficiency and did an exceptional job overall. WHS chapter also took home the North Carolina DECA Civic Awareness award and Chapter of Distinction award for their program of work, membership growth and community service. Competitors that were state finalists qualified for International Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah competing with over 16,000 other DECA members. Alex Hartsell, Drew Marx, Vickie Belcher, Gray Hancock and Mike Bazzi will all be attending this international conference at the end of April. We wish them the best of luck!
The members had a great time and became closer as a chapter while meeting so many new students. Again, Congratulations to WHS DECA for their successes at State Competition.
