Elementary Battle of the Books Book Fair
Later this month, our school will have an Elementary and Middle School Battle of the Books Book Fair at Antioch. Up until now, our spring BOB Book Fair has only been for fifth graders to promote the BOB program in the middle school. But, now that we have started an elementary Battle of the Books program this year, we are extending our book fair to all third-fifth grade students. The Book Fair will run from May 22nd - June 6th. Kathy Gwinn will talk to all the third and fourth grade students about the program and the fair, while Diane Minsker from Weddington Middle will talk to the fifth graders about the middle school program. The book fair is to help students become aware of the program and get them reading these books over the summer.
This year was our first elementary Battle of the Books competition. Kathy Gwinn asked for the program and three schools responded. At Antioch, we had four coaches: Kathy Gwinn, Kristen Bruch, Meg Nance, and Tiffany McKinney. Each school set up their own program, and we set up individual school competitions in the month of January and February. The county competition was in early March, where Marvin Elementary took first place. Our school held a school competition with our three teams from the school vying for the "school winner". Team B won for our school. Their names are: Alyssa Biancardi, John D'Amico, JT Greer, Tagrt Hougton, Dev Patel, and Noah Trujillo. They will have their team name displayed on our perpetual plaque that will hang in the media center.
