EUMS New Global Citizens Raise Money
In the month of April the EUMS New Global Citizens raised $1591 for House of Hope in Uganda, Africa and School on Wheels in Los Angeles. Students raised the money by hosting two events. They held a carwash at Auto Zone in Monroe on Saturday, April 21.
They also hosted $1 dress downs at East Union Middle.
In February, the group selected two organizations to support: House of Hope, a community-based organization that provides housing and schooling for orphans, and School on Wheels, a non-profit that provides homeless children in Los Angeles with school supplies and tutoring after school. Of all the global projects that they could have chosen, they believed these two organizations were the most important to raise funding for.
Other than fundraising, NGC students raised awareness on global poverty by going on morning announcements, speaking at one of our Site Based meetings, decorating a school bulletin board and designing and handing out postcards that advertised the two charities.
Says teacher, Ashley Ponscheck, "We are extremely proud of our students’ passion and hard work, giving of their time and talents to support two wonderful global organizations."
