Wingate Elementary students partner with Discovery Place

Wingate Elementary students enjoyed getting up close and personal with an iguana when the school partnered with Discovery Place and graduate students from Wingate University.

Wingate Elementary School partnered with Discovery Place and graduate students from Wingate University recently to host "Camp Protovation" for 70 rising fourth- and fifth-grade students.

“A trip to Discovery Place provided a super day of culminating activities at the end of the two weeks,” said Wingate Elementary Principal Mike Henderson.

The science-based camp, held from June 18 to June 28, provided students with a unique and rich opportunity to be inspired and empowered to learn science using the best that is known about science methods.

The hands-on learning experiences were designed around the Science Essential Standards being adopted by Union County Public Schools and North Carolina.

The partnership also made professional development possible for Wingate Elementary teachers and Wingate University students.
