Savannah Vickers wins “Bookmark Design Contestâ€
As part of its summer reading program, the Monroe branch of the Union County Library sponsors a “Bookmark Design Contest.” For this year’s 2nd annual contest, children ages 10-12 were encouraged to design a bookmark that supported the Reading Program’s theme of “Dream Big, Read!”
Piedmont Middle School rising seventh grader Savannah Vickers was announced the winner of this year’s contest, with her design of a girl reading a book and imagining herself as a scuba diver discovering a treasure chest. Vickers finalized this design after drafting three ideas. According to Children’s Librarian Dana White, “I could tell she spent a lot of time and thought on it. It took a lot of creativity.” The bookmark is on display and will be available to patrons in the Children’s section of the Monroe branch for the next year.
Children can participate in the Summer Reading Program at the Monroe branch of the Union County Public Library until August 10. Participants can earn prizes as they complete different types of reading that encourage them to “Dream Big!”
