Julian Coley, who recently completed his 8th grade year at East Union, won 2nd place for color photography in the National Beta Convention on June 26. Julian's photo was first chosen as a winner from several entries at the school level. He then attended the state convention, along with several EUMS students, February 6-7, 2012. Julian placed 2nd in Color Photography, which qualified him to compete at the national level.
The National Beta Convention was held in Greensboro, NC June 23-26. Students from fourteen states competed at the national convention. Julian again placed 2nd in the Color Photography category. The picture he submitted will be on display in the National Beta office in Spartanburg, South Carolina for the next year.
Julian is an very talented photographer. His mother, Lisa Coley, stated that Julian worked on his father's poultry farm to save money to buy his Nikon camera, and at the age of 13 was the photographer at a cousin's wedding. "Julian was a student in my Media Literacy class in the fall of 2011. That's when I learned of his remarkable talent," said Susie Jones, EUMS Media Coordinator. "I was amazed at the beauty in his photographs. He can take a picture of a tree and it looks amazing. He definitely has a natural eye for photograpy!"
We at East Union Middle are very proud of Julian's accomplishments, and look forward to seeing his success in the future!
