Mrs. Kraftson Visits Norway
This past summer, Mrs. Kraftson had the opportunity to travel to Norway with her mom and sister for over a week. The purpose of the trip was to experience and learn more about her Norwegian heritage from her mother’s side of the family. Mrs. Kraftson visited the spectacular cities of Oslo, Ulvik, Bergen, Balestrand, Geiranger, Lillehammer, and Oslo.
During her time there, she travelled by coach bus, railway, and ferry boat with a tour guide that focused on providing the tourists with valuable historical information. Mrs. Kraftson enjoyed gourmet buffet lunches and dinners with authentic Norwegian food (a lot of fish!). She also viewed numerous breathtaking waterfalls, as well as the world-famous Geiranger, Hardanger, and Sogn Fjords.
A few trip highlights included a visit to the historic city of Bergen and the famous Bryggen Harbour with gabled packhouses and the old Hanseatic Quarter from the 14th century. Mrs. Kraftson also had the opportunity to visit the world famous Birksdal Glacier in the Jostedalbreen National Park via open car. In addition, Mrs. Kraftson visited the ski jumps in the city of Lillehammer, the site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Finally, she visited famous stave churches that were built between the 12th and 14th centuries.
This trip provided Mrs. Kraftson with worthwhile memories and experiences that she looks forward to passing on to her students and children for years to come!
