"Girls on the Run" Starts This Fall
Porter Ridge Elementary is pleased to announce a partnership with Girls on the Run of Union County to bring the amazing program to our school this Fall. Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 5th grade and their mission is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running."
Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K running event with healthy living education. The program instills self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training – all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
The Porter Ridge Girls on the Run team will have 15 spots and registration will be first come, first served. There is a fee to register, and scholarships are available for any family in need--no girl is turned away for financial hardship. Online registration opens on Tuesday, September 4th and the season starts the week of September 24th. The family fun GingerSnap 5K will take place on Saturday, December 1st in downtown Waxhaw.
