CATA “Band of Blue†Makes History
Central Academy is proud to announce the addition of a full marching band program to the performing arts department this year. For the first time in CATA history, the marching “Band of Blue” will perform a traditional half time show during our home football games at Walter Bickett stadium in addition to playing pep tunes in the stands.
Musicians in the “Band of Blue” ended their summer vacation early to prepare for football season. They rehearsed from 8am-5pm for two weeks in August to condition their bodies, hone their marching skills, and polish and memorize their music.
This year’s “Band of Blue”, weighing in at nearly 40 musicians, will perform Motown and early disco music in a half time show called “Groove on the Move.” Fans in the stands will be able to tap their feet to hits like “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire, “My Girl” by the Temptations, and “I Want You Back” by the Jackson Five.
During the game, fans can expect to hear tons of noise as the “Band of Blue” joins forces with the cheerleaders in support of our Cougar football team. The band will play pep band standards you would expect to hear at any game such as “Louie, Louie” and “Celebration” in addition to some cheers and drum cadences that have been created just for CATA that the band is eager to debut.
Come cheer on the team and move to the groove with the “Band of Blue” at our next home game on Friday, August 31 against Central Cabarrus.
More images and video of the band can be found on the band website.
