Marvin Ridge is ready for the 2012-2013 school year

The administration and faculty at Marvin Ridge Middle School made sure that students would be ready for school this fall by organizing several back-to-school sessions for parents and students. Rising sixth grade students and their parents were invited to attend a Maverick Boot Camp and Parent University on either August 2 or August 15 to learn more about middle school, meet some sixth grade teachers and become familiar with their new school. A new student orientation also took place later in the day on August 15 for any student new to the school. Finally, on August 24 the school was open for students to “Walk Your Schedule” with their parents and introduce themselves to their teachers.

Teachers opened their classrooms to rising 6th graders during Maverick Pride Boot Camp to teach mini lessons on some of the most important topics for new middle school students; organization, opening locks and lockers, and deciphering schedules. While students were touring the school, parents met with the Principal, Mr. Scott Broome, and 6th grade Assistant Principal, Ms. Patricia Greene, to reflect on the joys and tribulations of middle school. Parents filled the bleachers in the gym and listened and laughed as the administrators discussed their ideas, experiences and expectations. “The transition to middle school can be a exciting time for both parents and students and we want to do all we can to ensure our students and their parents feel prepared, comfortable, and welcome,” said Ms. Greene.

Then on August 24, as summer wound down to is final days, students once again filled the halls during “Walk Your Schedule” day to familiarize themselves with their new teachers and classrooms. Students reconnected with friends, parents recounted their vacations, and teachers introduced themselves to their new students. "This is the reminder that summer is over and we need to start setting our alarms," said one parent.

The 2012-2013 school year begins on August 27 and Marvin Ridge Middle School is ready!  New students and parents, welcome to the Marvin Ridge family and returning students and parents, welcome back!
