Stallings Elementary's New Faces
It’s a new year with new faces at Stallings Elementary. Mrs. Gaddy took the Principal position after Mr. Breckenridge retired and so we got a new Assistant Principal, Ms. Kimberly Combs. Ms. Combs is from Waynesville, North Carolina and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in elementary education from Western Carolina University in 1991. She taught in the classroom for over 21 years. Half of her career was spent teaching middle school mathematics and the other half teaching various elementary grades. Ms. Combs worked in Chongqing, China during the summer of 2005 where she taught conversational English and American culture to middle school students. Ms. Combs holds her National Board Certification as a middle childhood generalist and earned her Master’s Degree in Administration from Gardner Webb University in 2012. She has held many leadership roles during her career, the last sixteen of which were working in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. She served as Alexander Graham Middle School’s 6th grade lead math teacher for many years and Sharon Elementary’s Lead Math Contact for six years. Ms. Combs is passionate about her career in education and believes strongly that all children can learn and deserve the very best education that schools can provide. She is excited to be a part of the Stallings Elementary community and looks forward to a wonderful school year.
Also new this year, we have a Visiting International Faculty member as a Kindergarten teacher. His name is Suresh Swaminathan and comes to us from Great Britain. Mr. Swaminathan was born in Sri Lanka, spent 10 years in Hong Kong, but most recently lived in North Hampton, England. Mr. Swaminathan also taught English in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Swaminathan received his Masters Degree in the United States and this is his fourth year teaching. He is a traditional South Indian Artist in dance, too. Mr. Swaminathan is married and has one daughter.
We also have a new half-time EC teacher. She is Ms. Katie Rustman. It is her second year teaching special education. She taught in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System last year. Ms. Rustman taught a self contained autism class last year. She is originally from Chicago and went to school at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
Our new Speech Teacher is Ms. Barbara Arcaini. She has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 33 years. Ms.Arcaini is originally from Miami, Florida where she spent most of her career until moving to Charlotte 12 years ago. She worked in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System prior to coming to UCPS last year. Ms. Arcaini says, “This is my first year at Stallings and I love it! The staff has been very welcoming to me. I look forward to working at Stallings for many years to come!” We share her with Indian Trail Elementary just up the road.
We welcome all of our new staff to Stallings Elementary and know that they will come to enjoy our close knit school family atmosphere.
