Sun Valley Spartans Show They Care!

On August 25, 2012, nine staff members of Sun Valley Elementary School (SVES) donated their time and effort to support the annual United Way Day of Caring. The volunteers demonstrated their Spartan pride as they mowed grass, trimmed bushes, raked leaves, washed windows, and cleaned gutters for an elderly Waxhaw couple. Pam Jordan, SVES teacher assistant commented, “It just feels great to help someone who really needs a hand.” The elderly gentleman thanked the group for helping him get things done that he could no
longer do.

The volunteers benefited greatly from this community service. They not only supported persons in need, but they were able to enjoy some lighthearted fellowship while being outside on a beautiful day.

The Spartan volunteers included the following:
Kerry Plyler, Teacher Assistant & Team Leader,
Joyce Plyler, Bookkeeper
Erin Hinnau, NC Wise Data Manager
Cole Hurst, P.E. Teacher
Louise Glover, Computer Teacher Assistant
Pam Jordan, Teacher Assistant
Aime McCall, Fourth Grade Teacher
Diane Hubbert, Fifth Grade Teacher
Suzy Robbins, Assistant Principal
