Mavericks Teach in China
Ni Hao! This summer our own Maverick teachers went to teach at our sister school in Nanjing, China. They were joined by other teachers from neighboring UCPS schools. Assistant Principal, Lisa Justice, wrote to us from their trip: “We will celebrate our half-way point in the camp tomorrow, and we have done and seen so much together. We have fallen in love with the students here and our new friends at school. Better yet, we are fully experiencing as much of China as possible. When we arrived, we spent the night in Shanghai, and then travelled the next morning to the scenic spot in the picture. We spent another night in the city of Wuxi, and then came on to Nanjing. The camp is very well orgnized. We are teaching morning and afternoon classes, some 40 minutes and some 80 minutes. The 80 minute idea is a first; it came from the time that the principal delegation spent with us in our schools in April. We have seen the kids perform in a talent show and English voice acting. We have a campfire night on the agenda for tomorrow. They keep us busy, but have also given us time to explore Nanjing. It has been wonderful!” Ms. Justice, Mr. Mapp, and the many MRHS teachers will have stories to share with students when they arrive back on campus in a few weeks!
The best news is that no one has been majorly ill. Travel fatigue and a few other issues, but nothing along the lines of last year. So far, so good...I don't want to jinx us!
I will send you another update before we leave or as time allows. Part of us will arrive home on July 17; the others will travel on to Bejing and come home on July 22. Continue to keep us in your thoughts...it has been my honor and privilege to be here in China with everyone!
Thanks! Xie Xie!!
