Meet Our New VIF Teacher!
The new 2012/2013 school year sees the addition of a new VIF teacher at Fairview Elementary School. Sandra Duncan is a teacher from South Africa who will be joining the Grade 5 teaching team. She will be responsible for bringing the continent of Africa and more specifically southern Africa to the attention of the students of Fairview. She hopes to high light the cultural differences and the use of music and dance in the African culture. Sandra has taught grades 3, 4 and 5 in a public school iin Johannesburg, her hometown. She studied at the University of South Africa and graduated after 6 years with her Honours in Inclusive Education. She leaves behind her parents and brother in South Africa and has a sister who lives in Canada. Sandra also studied music in High School and enjoys playing the piano and flute. In South Africa she was choir conductor for the Senoir section of the school and taught recorder as an extra mural activity. She loves teaching Science and is thoroughly excited about teaching American Social Studies. Having the opportunity to teach in the States is a privilege and will be a huge benefit for her teaching career.
