WHS receives global recognition

Kristy Dilsworth, WHS teacher, receives Global Teacher award from UCPS Board of Education Chairman John Collins and UCPS Superintendent Dr. Mary Ellis.

This year’s ceremony was held on August 23 at Central Academy of Technology and Arts. In the recognition ceremony, there were several categories that schools and teachers could strive to attain, beginning with Global Teacher Leaders. There were about 50 applicants for this designation, which required a portfolio that demonstrated their global teaching practices, having a global philosophy and being able to offer their students a global education. Weddington High School’s Kristy Dilsworth was recognized as a Global Teacher Leader alongside thirteen other teachers in the county at this year’s event.

The International Schools designation is the highest recognition that schools may receive in the Union County Global Schools Program. Schools are awarded points based on the number of global initiatives taking place within the school and receive a banner and a plaque denoting this achievement.
