Summer Reading Awards & Family Movie Night
On Saturday, September 8th, Stallings Elementary students and parents participated in a reading award celebration and family movie night. Students that completed their summer reading program and turned in a reading record to Mrs. Brooke Kramb, Literacy Facilitator, were given several prizes and a ribbon to wear provided by the PTO. Participation in the summer reading program was great. Click here for a list of students that were awarded ribbons for their summer reading. The students won free ice cream from Chick-fil-A, a ribbon that said "Readers as Leaders" with our school colors and a free book of their choice.
"For years teachers have noticed that there is a typical reading regression of two or more reading levels during the summer months when students have not read daily. After further research we decided to implement a summer reading program to reduce the summer reading regression," said Mrs. Kramb. In May and June of 2012, students set reading goals and pledged to read between 70 and 100 percent of the time during summer months.
As part of the celebration students were entertained with a movie, The Lorax. Family Movie Night was sponsored by Forrest & Forrest Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. Both the students and parents enjoyed the movie which had a great message.
