Rea View Teachers Travel to China
Three Rea View teachers Meighan Ash, Lori Gowdy, and Dana Williams taught and traveled in China this past summer with a group of educators from the Marvin Ridge and Weddington schools. Marvin Ridge High School has a sister school partnership with the High School Affiliated to Nanjing Normal University in Nanjing China, a school that serves 7000 students from pre-K through high school. After a team of administrators from the sister school in China visited Marvin Ridge High, Marvin Ridge Middle and Rea View last April, Rea View teachers were invited to join the summer teaching team. The school offers a two week English Language Camp for approximately 1500 Chinese students, and the team of teachers from Union County provided the instruction for the camp. The Rea View teachers served students in grades 4-7 who were in the early stages of their English language learning. The focus for their teaching was conversational English and vocabulary learning, with an overarching theme of "We are Family". Our teachers used art and music as primary means of engaging the students during the camp. After the language camp concluded, Ms. Ash, Ms. Gowdy, and Mrs. Williams traveled from Nanjing to Beijing, where they visited famous sites such as the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Olympic Village, and more. These adventurous Rea View teachers have presented highlights of their trip to both the total staff and to those in attendance at our first PTA meeting. Hats off to these globe-trotting teachers!
