He did nothing wrong. His students did an amazing job raising money for the school through the Boosterthon Fun Run. Still, Marvin Elementary School Principal Jay Jones was suspended. From the flagpole!
To reward the students for almost reaching the challenge of getting pledges from all 50 states, Jones agreed to be duct taped to the flagpole, and he made good on his promise today. "It's all about these little Marvin Mustangs," said Jones.
Those little Mustangs did a great job, raising and collecting over $25,000 to date, with an expectation of around $27,000. They also increased their state participation from 35 last year to 41 this fall.
"I hope that I sent the message that sometimes sacrifice for the greater good is a good thing," said Jones. The students are not likely to soon forget what their leader did in honor of them.
