Battle of the Bosses

This year’s “Battle of the Bosses” sponsored by the Union County Education Foundation, was a great success. For the past three years the UCEF has hosted a volleyball tournament that pits administration against administration to raise funds for Union County Public Schools. Competition this year was between rival clusters Porter Ridge and Piedmont. The Porter Ridge Pirates won against the Piedmont Panthers, 2 games to 3.

To make the tournament more interesting, each game had its own set of rules. In the first game, teams were allowed to hit the ball three times before hitting the ball over the net. Teams were required to hit the ball three times before going over the net in the second game. And in the last game, teams were required to hit the ball four times before going over the net. Teams were also allowed to buy points during the time-outs.

Porter Ridge Middle was well represented by Mr. Harris, Mr. Patience, Mr. Bretz and Mr. Lasher in the tournament. Their perseverance helped bring the trophy home to the Porter Ridge Cluster. The Porter Ridge cluster will share the trophy that will visit each school until the next “Battle of the Bosses” Tournament.
