J.K. Rowling Visits Mrs. Miller's 4th Grade Class via Scholastic-Sponsored Webcast
J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, visited Mrs. Miller’s 4th grade class on Thursday, October 11th via a Scholastic-sponsored webcast. Mrs. Miller’s class listened to Rowling discuss her favorite parts of the seven-book series and answer questions from other students around the world about a variety of Harry Potter-related topics. Rowling also read-aloud a portion of the first book in the series Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Rowling then explained the release of the www.pottermore.com website that students can browse to learn extra facts about Harry Potter and play Potter-inspired games.
One interesting fact that J.K. Rowling shared during the webcast was that during the 17 years she spent working on the series, she often wrote in coffee shops in and around Edinburgh, Scotland, her hometown. Even when the books became popular and she started to get recognized, she was still able to write in the coffee shops because the customers respected her privacy.
Mrs. Miller’s class learned the importance of the revising and editing piece of the Writing Process. They thoroughly enjoyed participating in this experience and thank Mrs. Helbig and Mr. Hardman from IT for helping make this happen
