Weddington High celebrates 1:1 Laptop Initiative

Ninth graders Katelyn Prakash, left, and Jardyn Brown, right, receive their 1:1 laptops.

Weddington High celebrates its first year as part of the 1:1 Laptop Initiative for Union County Public Schools.

The 1:1 Laptop Initiative began in all UCPS middle schools in 2010 to provide students with a great learning opportunity. This year UCPS is excited to continue the 1:1 Laptop Initiative and extend the opportunity to all high school freshmen. The 1:1 Initiative is designed to increase global awareness, promote innovation, and encourage student success.

As part of the 1:1 Laptop Initiative all ninth grade students and their parents wishing to participate had to attend an informational night at Weddington High School. During this informational night both students and parents learned about the care of the laptop, internet safety, and school rules and guidelines for laptop usage.

Starting last week ninth grade students who had met all requirements began receiving their laptops. Students received a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Laptop, Lenovo backpack, and power adapter. As students attend classes this school year, teachers will be designing technology rich lessons that will implement 21st Century Skills into their curriculum.
