The World of Drumming!
This year the students at Rocky River Elementary are going to experience the world of drumming. Rocky River has purchased about 17 new African drums that include Tubanos, Djembes, and Ngoma drums. Also other percussive instruments were purchase to help add to the different styles of music the students will be studying. Grades 3-5 have been working on the World Drumming Curriculum which will work on team building, listening skills, and problem solving. This curriculum will also help the students globally by connecting Latin American and African cultural traditions. Students at Rocky River have been working very hard on these ensembles and have been enjoying the music that they have been creating. With the drums the students have been working on percussion techniques and rhythmic patterns to create complex ensembles with about 6 different parts.
