Students Study Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
Students in Ms. Sanders new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Academy have been working diligently to reach every goal set by UCPS and Parkwood Middle School. On a daily basis 6th, 7th & 8th graders are being exposed to STEM and its connection to Aerospace, Manufacturing, Robotics, Fire Technology and Engineering, Electronics and Architecture. The future holds a multitude of career opportunities that require the need for 21st Century learning skills and Workplace readiness.
To prepare for such opportunities, students will be learning across curriculum by partnering with PWMS Art department, Science department and Parkwood High Schools Career & Technical Education department in a grassroots effort to groom them for Job Shadowing, Career Co-Op’s, internships and apprenticeships in high demand STEM fields. Our students have participated in multiple workshops and presentations from community partners such as Wingate University, UNC Charlotte, as well as the Union County Fire Marshalls department. Students are being trained to investigate scientific experimentation, understand strength of problem solving techniques, define and execute design processes along with programming and constructing Robots. Each lesson completed includes research and development along with creating a final model that students can put on display and use as learning tool that correlates to core curriculum.
