Rye Barcott Speaks to UCPS High School Students

ROTC students speak to the author after the presentation.

On November 7th, Rye Barcott came to CATA and spoke to chosen individuals from each of the Union County high schools about his personal experience with globalization. Rye Barcott is the author of It Happened On The Way to War: A Marine's Path to Peace and the founder of Carolina for Kibera.

Barcott, with his non-governmental organization, has helped change the lives of the people that live in the slums of Kibera, Kenya since 2001. Barcott insisted on giving back to the community of Kibera after a short influential visit in this poverty-striken area, he was determined to provide better living conditions & opportunities at life.

"Talent is universal, opportunity is not." Creating essentials such as the Tabitha Medical clinic and restoring sanitation, to developing a recreational soccer program that provides scholarships, all these things have made a change. Rye Barcott did not set out to make a difference, but he did just that.

We can all make a difference in this world, if we try.  If you would like to know more about Carolina for Kibera or donate please visit http://cfk.unc.edu/whatwedo/
