Mrs. Tomberlin - Award of Excellence Recipient

Mrs. Tomberlin wins the Award of Excellence for the South Central District.

Congratulations to Mrs. Stephanie Tomberlin, Porter Ridge Middle School Band Director! Sunday, November 11, 2012, Mrs. Tomberlin was honored with the Award of Excellence for the South Central District. She was nominated in January and received the award in Winston-Salem at the North Carolina Music Educators Association fall conference.

The South Central District is the largest district in the state encompassing 8 counties. In the history of the South Central District Award of Excellence, which started in the 1970’s, Mrs. Tomberlin is one of only 5 middle school directors to receive this award as well as the 5th female recipient.

We are truly fortunate to have Mrs. Tomberlin as our band director. She is in her 20th year of teaching band. When asked what is the most rewarding part of teaching band, Mrs. Tomberlin said, “It is watching the students develop from beginners in sixth grade to advanced musicians through the remainder of middle school and on in to high school.”
