FCA Sponsors Shoe Box Drive

Members of FCA pack up shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Here at Porter Ridge, we take a tightly knit community and mold it to have a global perspective. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club has taken this perspective to heart and conducted its second annual Operation Christmas Child shoe box drive collection.

This ministry takes a simple shoe box, fills it with all sorts of treasures, and sends it overseas to an underprivileged child. These shoe boxes reach over 100 countries; orphans, sick, mentally impaired, physically disabled children receive these gifts. For most of them it is the first and only wrapped gift they have ever received. Since start of this organization almost twenty years ago, Operation Christmas Child has reached 100 million children around the globe.

In an effort to spice things up this year, the third block class with the highest percentage of shoe boxes collected received a free Chick-fil-a lunch. Mrs. Robinson’s third block class went over and beyond with a total of 147% of students participating. Between Porter Ridge Middle and High, we collected close to 100 shoe boxes, three times the amount last year. Porter Ridge is all about bringing community together to create a global impact. Through the help of our school, and chick-fil-a, we did it!
