Maverick Artists Focus on Culture and Society at All Levels
Mavericks taking Advanced Placement Art classes are producing artwork focused on social and global issues. Visitors and students at Marvin Ridge High School can view the artwork in the foyer of the school and throughout the building. Mrs. Meryl Baumgarten, AP Art Teacher, uses the artwork of AP students and students in earlier art classes to allow the students the opportunity to critique artwork, thereby improving their overall understanding of symbolism and technique in artwork. Art 1 and Art 2 students are also exposed to the portrayal of culture in their artwork. Mr. Chris Roncone, Art Teacher, provides the opportunity for his students to incorporate their cultural heritage, or a global culture into their pieces. This research was an inspirational starting point to create a work of fine art which showcased their illustration talents.
