Spartan Global Team Competes at Academic World Quest
The Spartan Global Trivia team attended the Academic Worldquest competition on November 13th. Members of the team were Ben Law, Christian Sangio, Dylan Kerkhoff, Michael Garrett and Rory Lazenby. The team was led by Mr. Brian Pitoniak. The team memorized information from topics including World flags, The Cuban Missile Crisis, and Geography of Australia. Over twenty schools competed, and Sun Valley placed 17th in the competition. "This club is great for underclassmen to get involved in clubs and have fun with people who share the same interests in academic subjects," says Christian Sangio, team President.
Who attends Academic WorldQuest?
Each high school in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Gaston and Union County sends eight students as part of their individual teams.
How is Academic WorldQuest Played?
This fast-paced game is played in 8 rounds of 10 questions, each with typically 30-seconds for every question. Some questions may require additional time. Each team collaborates to answer the questions and submits their answer sheet at the end of each round.
What Do You Win?
AWQ and WQ teams are judged separately. Medals and trophies are awarded to the first, second and third place teams for both WQ and AWQ winners. Top teams also have their photos taken and receive special recognition.
The Sun Valley Spartan Global Trivia Team has participated in the competition for the previous five years with Mr. Pitoniak, and all students have had a great time of fellowship, competing with some of the best schools in the region.
If you would like to join in the fun and education, see Mr. Pitoniak in room 109 to get involved in the team.
