Clubs Bake Treats and Collect Items for Troops
Spreading holiday cheer worldwide, several clubs and classes at Central Academy collected supplies to send to a Marines Unit currently based in Afghanistan.
Students from Hands Helping Others, Environmental Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mr. Sholar’s class, Mrs. Janicki’s class, Ms. Kopchick’s class, and Ms. Varner’s class donated approximately 200 pounds of goods to Unit 41062 in Afghanistan.
Many items like air fresheners, Rice Krispy Treats, snacks, soaps, lotions, sunscreen, gossip magazines, and DVD’s were collected. Students from Hands Helping Others and Environmental Club stayed after school and made five batches of Rice Krispy Treats and wrote holiday greeting cards.
9th Grade English classes also wrote and decorated holiday cards to send with the care packages. Mr. Sholar, a veteran himself, said, “All those messages of thanks will put smiles on those Marines’ faces.”
After reading through a lot of the homemade greeting cards, Ms. Kopchick said, “I was touched by the words of thanks and encouragement our students had for our soldiers. It means so much to me to work at a school with students who can come together for projects like this.”
The CATA family supports our troops and wishes all our American soldiers a wonderful holiday season.
