Community Service Projects Address Local and National Needs
Rea View's very active Student Council has worked in partnership with our PTA Community Service Committee and a Daisy Scout Troop to publicize and organize community service projects in recent weeks at Rea View. The first project was a coat drive, which yielded over 300 coats that will be distributed to people in Union County in the weeks ahead. The next project is a Canned Food Drive which officially runs from December 3 through December 14, and will benefit local families this winter as well. Members from the Monroe Kiwani's Club have picked up our non-perishable food contributions on a regular basis and will help to deliver the food throughout the community. The final project involves raising funds for the American Red Cross' Hurricane Sandy Relief effort. Students are contributing $1 or coins during the week of December 10 and all students will enjoy a Hat Day on Friday, December 14 to culminate the week of giving. Trystan, the Rea View Student Council President, shared the following insight about the projects, "There are lots of people in need right now, so giving just one coat or one cane of food will help make a difference. Guest speakers that have come to our meetings have really helped get the enthusiasm going in our members." The Rea View Student Council is sponsored by staff members James Reese and Kathy Baker. Great job to these young leaders and their sponsors!
