Union County Public Schools International Baccalaureate Program Application Period Opens for the Class of 2015

The application process for the Union County Public Schools International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Marvin Ridge High School begins January 2, 2013. This program is open to all rising juniors in Union County Public Schools system who meet the criteria for acceptance.

The IB Program is acknowledged around the world for providing a college-level curriculum during the student’s junior and senior years. It is an integrated program of disciplinary study which emphasizes concurrency of learning, academic integrity, internationalism, breadth and depth of study, and education of the whole person.

The IB Program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the IB Program works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging “programmes” of international education and rigorous assessment. These “programmes” encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Students completing the IB Diploma Program are highly prepared and sought for post-secondary work in universities throughout the world. The International Baccalaureate Program, Geneva, Switzerland, awards the IB Diploma.

The IB Program was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation and works with 3,490 schools in 144 countries to offer IB programs to approximately 1,064,000 students.

Although the first IB schools were predominantly private international schools, they included a very small number of private national institutions and schools belonging to state education departments. This has changed over the years and today over half of all IB World Schools, including Marvin Ridge High School, are state schools.

Applications are open to all Union County Public Schools rising juniors and may be obtained by accessing the Marvin Ridge High School Website: http://mrhs.ucps.k12.nc.us.
