UCEC Hosts Pre-Kindergarten Students
Union County Early College students exchanged their usual routine of high school and college classes, projects and presentations, to come together and host their annual Angel Tree Event. On Friday, December 7th, 180 pre-K and Kindergarten students, and their teachers, were our guests as the UCEC students provided a Christmas party, complete with music, a puppet show, snacks, presents, and a visit from Santa!
Planning for this event began in October when our students selected “angels”. They then purchased a $10 toy from the child’s wish list. Students also decorated the gift bags with various Christmas scenes. SGA raised money to purchase a hat and pair of mittens for each child as well as crayons, a coloring book, and snacks. At least 90% of our student body participated in this event. Even though the guests had a wonderful time, the UCEC students really benefitted the most. It is always heartwarming to see teenagers at their best … serving others! Our students set up the room, provided the entertainment, filled the bags, distributed the toys, played with the children, AND cleaned up afterwards!!
Mr. Paul Cummings arranged our entertainment and students who participated include our puppeteers: Chris Correa, Chris Hernandez, Jane Rudenko. Adilene Ramirez and Lanicia Stanley and the performers: Sara Reinhardt, Laramie Fincher. Alison Picard, Iridian Garcia, Konnor Kennedy, Roman Styrku. Blake Barnette and Kayla Allred. Santa Claus was played by Andrew Piercy. A special thanks also goes to SGA for organizing the party and the National Honor Society and the Do It Yourself Clubs, as well as others, for decorating the gift bags. Mrs. McFadden and Mrs. Pharr helped pull it all together.
