Global week at WES broadens students’ view of world

The dress, food and arts of different cultures were celebrated during Global Week at Weddington Elementary School recently.

Global Week at Weddington Elementary School kicked off with presentations on cultures of Thailand, Greece, Norway and India.

The school wide cultural event, held Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 in the school’s media center, offered slide shows that depicted customs and lifestyles of each country.

The grand finale of Global Week was held on Dec. 19 in the school’s gymnasium.

It featured clogging, Taekwondo demonstrations, a fashion show depicting actual attire native to different countries, demonstrations of musical instruments from other countries and dancing by Greek and Indian dancers.

“The students were very excited and engaged and had a great time learning about the customs and cultures from other parts of the world,” said Kenn Bowers, the school’s technology facilitator and communications coordinator. “The WDES Global Week was a phenomenal and successful endeavor.”
