Third Grade Students Recognize and Celebrate Cultural Heritage
Third grade students recognized and celebrated their cultural heritages in November and December by completing a Cultural Resumé with their families. The students’ cultural heritage and its importance was discussed with their families. In class students shared what part of the world their families came from and when they arrived in America, as well as what language/s are spoken at home or if relatives speak a language other than English. Countries visited by the students and/or their families were included in the discussion and in some classes pinpointed on a world map.
Students shared this information in a variety of ways in their classrooms. Some created posters with pictures depicting their cultural heritage while others brought in items such as coins and foods. Traditional German cookies were even shared in one class.
