DECA hosted a School Supply and Book Drive

Students pose with two DECA members to show off their new books.

Weddington High School DECA members strive to make a difference in their community. They strengthen their club by getting involved and work together on projects that everyone can be proud of. It’s a great feeling to know the difference one club can make by donating time and energy to help others.

DECA organized a School Supply and Book Drive for Rock Rest Elementary in Union County. The goal of the drive was to give children books and school supplies to help them excel in their learning. DECA got the entire school involved with a simple incentive. The class that collected the most books and supplies would receive a Chick-fil-a breakfast. The collecting or competition started September 19th, and the competition was fierce. Classes were neck and neck, but only one could win. The drive ended on September 28th and Ms. Manley’s class collected the most supplies with Ms. Mead’s class following closely behind. WHS DECA collected over 2,300 books and 5,000 school supplies.

The students at Weddington spent their time sorting and boxing the supplies and books. The books were sorted by author, series, and age groups. The students that helped got to visit Rock Rest on November 16th to distribute some of the books and supplies to the classrooms and read to the students. DECA is appreciative to have a supportive and caring school and community. It’s amazing what Weddington students accomplished in only a few weeks. Thank you for all those who have helped with the drive.
