Club B.L.O.O.M. students receive biking backpacks

Club B.L.O.O.M. is our leadership and environmental awareness group at BHESA consisting of twenty-four 4th and 5th graders.

We recently received biking backpacks from a nonprofit organization called 'Trips for Kids'.

We met them last year while hiking Colonial Beatty Park in Matthews. Based in Charlotte, they target children who can benefit from mentoring through bicycling experiences, using bicycling as a tool to prepare kids for success by building positive accomplishments and relationships in their lives.

We are scheduled for two trips with them this coming year. They provide the bicycles, helmets and lunch for the children for a day of riding, and sharing some knowledge of bike riding and bike care.

To prepare for this trip, club B.L.O.O.M. members will participate in a bike clinic at BHESA to tune up our bikes and go over safety rules.

If there are any bike enthusiasts out there that want to join us, contact Mrs. Lohry, BHESA dance teacher.
