Eleven very talented contestants from Central Academy, Cuthbertson, Monroe, and Weddington High Schools represented the top winners at each of their school-level competitions.

First Place district winner is Roni Rose from Central Academy who recited “Requests for Toy Piano” by Tony Hoagland” and “Solitude” by Ella Wheeler Wilcox.

Roni is a sophomore in Adam Tarlton’s Honors English II class at CATA, and she enjoys “reading, dancing, and travel.” By winning at the classroom, school, and district competition, Roni will be representing Union County Public Schools at the Statewide Poetry Out Loud semifinals and finals held in Greensboro at the Greensboro Public Library, 219 North Church Street, Greensboro, N.C. 27401. This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend.
