CHS Plans First Sadie Hawkins Dance
The CHS sophomore class is excitedly making plan for the first ever Sadie Hawkins dance. The event will be held at school Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 8 to 11 pm. The term “Sadie Hawkins” refers to the non-traditional practice of the girls asking the guys. The custom dates back to 1937, when the concept was introduced by cartoonist Al Capp in his comic strip “Lil Abner.” According to the Sadie Hawkins website, in the comic strip, Sadie Hawkins was a homely girl whose father was worried about her living at home the rest of her life. Thinking she would never be asked out, he organized a race in which unmarried girls could pursue the town bachelors. Thus the tradition began.
Tickets are on sale this week during lunches for $12.00. Ticket sales help fund Prom which will be held April 27. The dance will feature a DJ playing current music and requests. The dress is Homecoming attire. Students in all grades are welcome to attend and may bring friends from other schools as long as the proper form is filled out and turned in in advance. Despite the term and tradition behind “Sadie Hawkins,” any students are welcome to ask dates or even just attend with friends! We hope to see everyone there!
