Marshville Summer Book Mobile

This summer Marshville Elementary School has taken their media center out on the road. The MES Book Mobile travels around town every Tuesday to help get books into the hands of children. “We really want to make sure students have books to read this summer” says Marshville Principal Tom Childers.
The Book Mobile travels to six highly populated areas where students can come and check out books. Juice and snacks are provided along with some really cool music. “The kids who participate are really excited to see us coming” says MES Media Coordinator Alison Rushing. “Teachers enjoy seeing their students too. It’s wonderful to see the kids excited about books and reading during their summer break”. The book mobile is operated by MES teachers. Each week four to five teachers volunteer their time in order to help with this project.
Books selected for the Book Mobile were chosen from a list generated of the top 100 books checked out by students this past school year. They are put into crates according to easy fiction, fiction and nonfiction. Students can easily browse through the crates and make their selections. Each Tuesday students are given the opportunity to return their books and choose different ones to read. The Book mobile serves fifty to sixty students each week.
