CATA Distributes Chrome Books
This week CATA staff are distributing over 800 Chrome Books to the students. Once the required forms have been signed by both the parents and student, students can pick up a Chrome Book. As of Thursday, August 29th, less than 50 computers were left to be handed out.
The new Chrome Books differ from the computers students have used in the past. Since they don't have a Windows operating system and other software installed, they boot up (start up) quickly.
Students will have access to different apps from the UCPS app store and some extensions that will work through their Chrome browser. One such extension can be used as a replacement for the paper agendas students used to receive.
Teachers will be including more work in Google Drive where students can collaborate on assignments and receive feedback. Students are expected to bring their Chrome Books to school each day and charge them at home each night.
The district is also requiring a technology access fee of $25.00 per student per year. This can be paid at the school by cash or check or online through the school's website.
Thank you to all the parents that made sure their student's form was signed and returned so they could get a Chrome Book. Thank you to everyone who has already paid their technology access fee as well. We are excited to see what our students can do with technology this year!
