New Year; Exciting Opportunities
With the start of the 2013-2014 school year Parkwood is welcoming many new learning opportunities for students! Following Dr. Ellis' "My Size Fits Me" plan for UCPS, this year students have flexible options for fulfilling their educational needs. This includes flex days for seniors, evening education for all high school students who are approved through an application process, and five new Union County Virtual online classes.
Changes have come to Parkwood as well. Stephanie McManus was named the new principal in June and began working immediately to prepare for this school year. When asked what her vision for the 2013-2014 school year is she said, "As we work together within the Parkwood community, I want that work together as parents, students, and teachers to be focused on supporting student decisions that lead to successful programs of study. Our students are on a journey that we intend to get them ready for college and career, and we are part of that promise to make the opportunities understandable and discernible for students. The decisions that they make today impact today and tomorrow. In addition, we will work to provide opportunities for modeling behavior that are positive in the approach to learning goals, and we will ask that students practice that positive behavior as well. Through all of these actions of working together and attending to values of excellence, our students will benefit. Our collective positive energy will make the difference for our Parkwood students."
