On Saturday, August 24, 2013 Poplin Elementary School staff members took time out of their weekend to think of others by participating in Union County’s 21st Annual United Way Day of Caring. According to the United Way of the Carolinas website, 1,400 volunteers assisted in 136 service projects in Indian Trail, Monroe, Wingate, Marshville, Unionville, Fairview, Mineral Springs, Stallings and other parts of the county.

The event began with a kickoff and light breakfast at Wingate University Football Stadium. Then groups were sent out into the community to work. Poplin Staff members worked together helping an elderly resident from the Indian Trail community with debris removal, yard work, painting, and cleaning windows. The following staff members participated: Principal Scott Broome and his wife Teresa, Janis Vogt, Beth Medlin, Jennifer Glahn, Traci Raine, Shelley Gordon, Cheryl Dillard, Michelle Ruby, Gillian Bossard, Shelia Dence, and Kim Parker.
