First annual UCPS/UCEF golf tournament huge success
Thanks to the efforts of local golfers, the Union County Education Foundation raised $18,366 for Union County Public School student scholarships.
An impressive 176 golfers participated in the tournament, held May 20, 2013, at Rolling Hills Country Club.
Organizers said local golfers, schools, booster clubs, PTO/PTAs and business sponsors helped to make the tournament a winning event.
“Thanks to strong business partnerships, 100 percent of the revenue generated at this event will directly fund scholarships to be awarded to graduates of Union County High Schools,” said event co-organizer Porter Ridge High School Principal Sam Basden.
Two “flights” of teams played. The first flight teed off at 8:00 a.m., with lunch, gifts and prizes that followed the play. The second flight started with lunch at noon and a 1:30 p.m. tee time for the teams.
The $400 entry fee (or $100 per player) covered golf, cart rental, mulligans, lunch, raffle tickets and prizes.
Basden, with the help of Monroe High School Principal Brad Breedlove, organized the first of what is slated to become an annual event.
The tournament’s main sponsors were Terracon Consultants, BSN Sports, Lenova US and the Union County Community Shelter. For a complete list of all hole sponsors, go to the Union County Education Foundation website and Facebook page.
