Weddington Cluster gives back to community
Winston Churchill once said “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”
The Weddington cluster schools, including Weddington High, Weddington Middle, Antioch Elementary, Wesley Chapel Elementary and Weddington Elementary, had the unique opportunity to live out this quote Saturday, (August 24, 2013).
Staff, students and parents participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring, a day created to give back to the community in which we all live.
The Weddington Cluster Team was assigned to help an elderly couple in the Waxhaw area.
“When we arrived, we met an elderly couple who had life stories to tell, pictures of grandchildren to share and a yard that needed a little TLC,” said Antioch Elementary teacher Cassie Sloop. “The team helped freshen up the yard, re-vamp a flower garden, carry off debris and spruce up the patio.”
When the day came to an end, each member of the Weddington Team had a great reminder that helping others is worth more than giving up a couple of hours on a Saturday.
“The team left knowing that paying it forward by making a difference in the lives of others, is the true reward in life,” Sloop said.
