SVHS NJROTC Selected to Represent North Carolina in Pearl Harbor Parade
Sun Valley High School’s NJROTC program has been selected to participate in the 2014 Pearl Harbor Parade, titled “The Parade of the Great Ships.” This parade will take place in December of 2014. Sun Valley’s NJROTC was selected due to the effectiveness of their program and the dedication of their cadets.
This opportunity is a huge honor for the program because Sun Valley was the only high school to be selected throughout the entire state to represent North Carolina in the parade. The cadets of the program are now starting the preparation for the parade this school year. They owe their success to the leaders of the program, Lieutenant Commander Pierre Russell and Master Gunnery Sergeant Bryant J. McKay.
The theme of the parade is "Remembering Our Past and Celebrating our Future." Its purpose is to both honor and pay respect to all those involved in the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor, including those who survived the attack, veterans, active duty military personnel and their families.
During the parade there is a military order of the purple heart to symbolize all of the brave heroes who have served in military conflicts throughout our history. Sun Valley’s NJROTC is so honored to be a part of this ceremony. So once again, Congratulations Sun Valley High school’s NJROTC.
